Second First Day of School for the First and Second Graders

It's officially hybrid learning time.

Lots of firsts. Lots of seconds. Lots of innovation.

This is the new look of a hybrid teacher - masked, all miked up, and carting around a web cam.

Our new desks are 6 feet apart in every direction.

We've got almost a 50/50 split.

Taking temps and health screening is a new norm.

And here they come!

Moving in!

We have lots to bring back.

Ms Wollum is part of the welcome committee.

And so is Ms Jackie.

So excited for the second first day!

"Beyond awesome" sums it all up!

Innovative Back Scratchers

Our overarching theme of the year is innovation.

Perfect for the year 2020.

First problem to innovatively solve?

An itchy back!

To kick off our study of simple machines, we each make an innovative back scratcher.

We each are given a ruler, a fork, and some chenille wires.

The holes in the ruler came in handy.

We are problem solvers. "How do you get this fork to be attached secure enough to stay on?"

Standing by the web cam and showing our friends at home

"See, look at my design!"

Our friends at home can see us and we can see them.

Testing out his double ended back scratcher

Thinking like an engineer and telling about his design

Since we are scientists, we label our lab diagrams.

Being innovative is right up our alley.

Our study of Simple Machines is off to a wonderful start.

Meet and Greet the Teacher (and take supplies home)

We were ready to start either at home or using a hybrid model. When the decision was made to start all at home, we began the year with a Meet and Greet. We met the teacher, picked up our supplies, and grabbed a few quick pictures.

Here are most of the eager, brave, fun, innovative, energetic, masked, smart, resilient, hard working, happy, creative, wonderful
2019-2020 Seabury First and Second Grade Navigators.

Back to School 2020-2021

Back to school sure looks different this year!

To be learning at school,
or to be learning at home,
that is the question.

Surprise! The teacher gets a new chair for outdoor use, plus a mask made by one of our parents, a face shield, and a stress ball.

Take everything you're used to,
put it in the middle of the room,
and exchange most of it for new desks.

Have individual supplies for each student, boxes for each class, and binders for each subject.
For those who come to campus, have a big bin for their backpacks, coats, and lunch boxes.

Put math manipulatives and supplies in boxes to be used either at school or at home.

Make plans for two, sometimes three months.

Mrs. Towne didn't learn how to do this at Concordia College on a Commodore 64 computer!

It's a good thing that Mrs. Towne has a big eraser for this year, because ready or not, here she comes!

Can't wait to start The. Best. Year. Ever.
