Fitting in perfectly with our study
of colonialism and westward expansion,
the Navigators created a quilt
for our upcoming Seabury School auction.
And the results, as you can see, are spectacular!
Thank you, M's grandma in Texas, for putting it all together!
Here was the process:
Using scraps of calico at the Job Carr Living History Museum, we learned about the art of quilting.
We learned that there are many different patterns.
We experimented with color.
We read several books that showed how quilts tell stories.
We read this book and then watched a video
and saw Patricia Palocco's real quilt.
You can watch here:
Back at school we learned more about the history of quilts.
We picked out fabric to make a house and a yard.
We began working on our own quilt blocks.
Students were adept at making their own,
making this auction project even more special.
Each piece was carefully positioned.
Each piece was ironed on.
Ta da! We're so proud of our creations!
Each one is so beautiful and unique.
And all together they are stunning!
Our finished quilt arrives in the mail!!
WE ARE SO EXCITED!
The sashing fabric is perfect!
COME TO THE AUCTION!
LET THE BIDDING BEGIN!!
Here is an art gallery
of our 12 whimsical blocks:
