Egypt Art

During our study of Egypt, art was incorporated in all that we did as it was an integral part of Egyptian culture.

Here are some of the projects we did. 

Grid drawing:

Used to draw paintings in temples and tombs

Step-by-step drawing:

Egyptian frontalism, where the head, arms, and legs go one direction and the main body faces the front. 

Drawings or paintings of King Tut. (Lots of choice at Seabury.)

Sculptures of  "blue hippos" with locus flowers painted on them. 

Many of these can be found in museums, including the Louvre in Paris. "Hey, that's a pyramid!" 

The book we read for inspiration:

Double Crown 

Upper and Lower kingdoms unite and the result is a combination of the two Pharaoh's crowns. We learned how to read directions and use a pattern on this project. You can see the unique interpretation of those instructions on these Navigator crowns.  We don't do cookie-cutter art projects at Seabury!

Shrinky Dink cartouches (Names in an oval shape like the Pharaohs.)

We LOVED this activity. We punched a hole in it before we shrunk it and now they hang on each student's backpack. This student did the earth and the solar system, too.
