Periodic Table of the Elements for Elementary Students? Seabury Education with the Brakes Off!

As the first grade Navigators have been looking at our world through the overarching lens of "Treasure", we did a Natural Resources Treasure Hunt. In the process, we discovered several things:

  • Everything is made of matter.
  • Matter is made of atoms.
  • Atoms are made of neutrons, protons, and electrons.
  • Matter comes in three forms: solid, liquid, and gas.
  • The periodic table of the elements is a chart of the different types of matter found in our world, i.e., elements.
  • We already know quite a few of the elements.
  • Even our toothpaste has an element in it.
  • Matter matters!
  • We treasure our treasures!

We have also discovered that discovering something new also causes us to ask more questions.

Here are some of the new questions we are asking:

  • Are our clothes made out of atoms?
  • Are we sitting on atoms?
  • Can you see an atom?
  • Are there atoms in space?
  • Do electrons have color?
  • How do atoms hold together?
  • How do atoms hold to each other?
  • How does the spark happen with static electricity?

Yes, elementary students can learn about the Periodic Table of the Elements!

THESE SEABURY KIDS!
